Research

In my research, I investigate family and the intersection of family with other areas in the United States, Nepal, and other international settings. Issues I have addressed include fertility, self-esteem, education, aging, and marriage. Accompanying my focus on the family is a curiosity to explore how families and individuals within families change as the social contexts around them also change.  I am also pursuing a new area of research in population and environment.  Using a true experimental design, our project examines how different Phoenix landscaping regimes change people's environmental attitudes, satisfaction, and practices.  I also work with the Southwest Interdisciplinary Research Center on issues of health disparities and culturally-grounded prevention research
